About Us

Everglades City School:

Everglades City School is one of the smallest PreK-12 public schools in the state of Florida, with a student population of approximately 200 students, located on the banks of the Barron River with direct access to the 10,000 Islands and the Gulf of Mexico!


We believe that all students have the ability to be successful. Our goal is to create a learning environment that enhances our students' desire to achieve the highest possible goals that each individual has the ability to reach. Our student programs, both athletic and academic, are geared toward assisting our students’ success.      

Fishing Fundraiser:

The 5th Annual Hook'em in the Glades is  fishing fundraiser is rescheduled for March 3-4, 2023!  Teams will fish the 10,000 islands for a chance to catch the biggest Snook, Redfish, and Seatrout while supporting our school.  Our fundraiser will help generate much needed funds for our students programs including the EVG News Crew, Debate, Student Government, Elementary Leadership, and more .

Tournament Details:

CAPTAIN'S MEETING: - Captains' meeting will be at The Diving Pelican/The Gator Hole in Everglades City .  Captain's Check-in & Happy Hour starts at 5:30pm. Dinner will be served at 6:30pm. Captains must attend to receive their official tournament measuring device and tournament rules.


Tournament: - Photo Fishing tournament begins at 7:00am.  Boat check-in is between 2:00-4:00pm at The Diving Pelican/The Gator Hole!   


Junior Angler SHORE DIVISION must check-in by 3:30pm.

Awards Ceremony at 4:00pm.

2 Adult Division:   Team Boat & Paddle Division


Student Division:  Individual Junior Angler On-Shore(18 and under), Junior Boat Longest Snook, Junior Boat Longest Redfish, Junior Boat Longest Seatrout, and a Junior Boat Team Division


On-Shore Junior Angler Division: Most Total inches caught. (See rules for details)

The boat team can consist of adults and junior anglers.  The targeted species are Snook, Redfish, and Seatrout

Students will compete for individual award categories of longest Snook, Redfish, & Seatrout.  Student can also enter the student team boat division and compete for a student team boat trophy

 

CCPS students that have their own boat may enter this category with a signed release from their parent or guardian.  The crew is determined by the student boat captain and the legal number of boat occupants.

Tournament Rules and Regulations

  • Judges have the final say
  • Catch & Release photo tournament.  Photos can be taken on a phone or digital camera with a time stamp which is supplied by the angler
  • The adult boat and junior angler boat is a team tourney. 
  • Junior anglers fishing from a boat will also compete as individuals for longest Snook, longest Redfish, and longest Seatrout.
  • The entire fish must be visible on the assigned measuring device given out at the captains meeting
  • The fish must face left, stomach down, on the tournament measuring device with angler's tournament number visible in the picture
  • All fish will be rounded up to the next inch in both the Boat and On-Shore Division
  • Once a fish is photographed, it may not be used by any other angler
  • Any bait of choice
  • Culling is not allowed in the National Park
  • Wading permitted
  • NO FISHING within 250 feet of marina areas, boat launches, or fuel stations for boat anglers
  • All State and Federal laws apply
  • Captains may launch at safe light, which is captains discretion
  •  A MINIMUM of 2 ANGLER'S per boat is required for safety reasons and MAXIMUM of 6 anglers per boat
  • NO LINES in the water before 7:00am 
  • Valid State of Florida fishing license is required to participate in the tournament as regulated by the FWC
  • ALL CAPTAINS THAT WILL DEPART FROM EVERGLADES CITY, RETURN TO EVERGLADES CITY, OR FISH IN THE NATIONAL PARK, MUST HAVE A NATIONAL PARK BOATERS SAFETY CERTIFICATION.  THIS IS FREE, BUT MUST BE COMPLETED AND DOCUMENTATION KEPT ON THE BOAT.  
  • Unmanned aircraft are prohibited within Everglades National Park
  • In case of a tie, the angler who catches the targeted species first wins
  • Boat Anglers may leave from the port of their choice as long as they abide by the launch at safe light and NO LINES in the water before 7am.
  • JUNIOR ON-SHORE anglers:  Fishing 7:00am - 3:30pm.  All Junior Anglers must be supervised by an adult  while participating.  Check-in between 2-3:30pm
  • BOATS: Check-in from 2:00pm-4:00pm 

FORMAT AND SCORING:

  • Hook'em in the Glades is a photo fishing tournament targeting Snook, Redfish, and Seatrout 
  • There are 7 divisions: Adult team boat, paddle division, Jr. Angler Team boat, Jr. On-Shore, and all Junior Anglers (18 and under) fishing from an adult boat or Jr. boat will also compete as individuals fishing for longest Snook, longest Redfish, and longest Seatrout.
  • Categories are: Adult boat team, Paddle division, Junior angler boat team,  Junior Angler Snook from a boat, Junior Angler Redfish from a boat, Junior Angler Seatrout from a boat, and Junior On-Shore  
  • BOAT DIVISION: First place will be awarded to the team with the most total inches using 1 fish in each species category 
  • BOAT DIVISION:  In the event of a tie, the team who caught their last target species fish first will be determined the winner
  • JUNIOR ON-SHORE DIVISION: Most total inches.  Each inch equals 1 point for Snapper, Black Drum, Sheepshead, & Jacks.  Target fish (Snook, Redfish, Seatrout) equals 5 points per inch. 
  • JUNIOR ON-SHORE DIVISION:  In the event of a tie, the angler who caught a target fish first will be determined the winner

Everglades National Park Boaters Safety Course Must Take if in the National Park at any time during the tournament
